My passion in life centres around people, and seeing them grow. I think of my role simply to empower people to be the best version of themselves. Using their gifts to find their calling and make a difference. In their community. Within their business. Changing their world for the better.

Growing up in Scotland, I was always aware of bigger horizons and had a deep interest in people and the wider world at large.

In my early teens, I was so inspired by the transformative effect that three days at STOBO CASTLE, Scotland’s only destination spa, had on my Mum that it set me on a path to the global beauty and personal care industry. Initially studying International Spa Therapy and Management, this led onto a career that has spanned decades, taking me all over the world working with renowned brands and many truly inspirational people.

My career choices have always been relationship driven. The challenges I have faced have been about balance and putting priorities in place. WOMEN IN BUSINESS

My experiences have shown me that there is opportunity to do everything we choose in life, understanding that we don’t have to compromise family, relationships or values in the process.

As a young working mum, the typical culture at that time was for a woman to either have a family or excel in her career. So, when I made what seemed like a huge choice to step down as Sales and Education Executive at Estee Lauder Companies it was due to the realisation that as much as I loved my job, I love my relationships and family more. On reflection I now realise this decision led to wonderful career opportunities that would otherwise never have come my way.

These experiences have proven to me that culture is everything in business. With the right culture in place, businesses can flourish through actively supporting a good work-life balance. This is essential for individuals to thrive and achieve their true potential, which, post-COVID, seems to be a lasting legacy to the benefit of all.

OPPORTUNITIES

Following 25 incredible years of devising and implementing successful sales and marketing strategies, as well as building effective teams, I decided to start my own consultancy, RISE Business Growth, in 2015.

Working with businesses as diverse as SME’s and publicly quoted corporations, our underlying philosophy is to provide only the strategic services identified to achieve growth ambitions and add value to the business using a formula that had been proven and served myself, and the brands, strategically up till then.

In 2015, on behalf of RISE, I delivered a workshop on market development and internationalisation as part of a Business Gateway Accelerator programme. The founders of Cutitronics, a skin-tech startup spun out of the University of Strathclyde, were invited to attend.

This became a first step in my considering how technology platforms, AI and blockchain might revolutionise the global beauty and personal care space.

Cutitronics then agreed to a strategic partnership with Croda International, the FTSE 100 Chemical company, using smart science to improve lives, creating an opportunity for me to work in an executive role for four years alongside their exceptional teams globally.

In 2020 I was recognised by We Are Tech Women as an inspirational woman in technology which led to my enrolling with the Said Business School at the University of Oxford where I successfully completed an executive education programme on digital disruption and platforms. This proved to be very valuable to the RISE consultancy I delivered for innovative brands including actiMirror, SnapDragon, Earneco and Beauty Kitchen.
